Student Job Listings through UMD's University Human Resources
There are many ways to find a job while attending college. You can look online, apply directly to companies, attend career fairs, network with friends, and more. But there are some things that you should know about finding a job during your studies.

First off, it’s important to understand what types of jobs are out there. Some positions require a bachelor’s degree, while others don’t. Some positions require experience, while others do not. And some positions require specific skills, while others are open to anyone with basic knowledge. If you want to ensure you’re getting a good fit for your education and future career, take advantage of resources like Career Services and the Office of Student Employment. They can help you identify potential opportunities and connect you with employers looking for qualified candidates.

Second, it’s always best to keep your options open. While most employers will accept applications via email, submitting your resume in person is better. This way, you can meet face-to-face with someone who might be able to give you feedback on your application. Also, try to avoid submitting multiple resumes. Instead, focus on one or two areas where you feel you have expertise. Finally, remember that networking is key. Don’t just send out resumes; go into your local communities and talk to people. Ask them about their careers and see if they have anything to offer.

Finally, don’t forget to explore your university’s career center. Most schools have dedicated professionals who can assist you in creating a plan for your future. These individuals can help you figure out how to balance your academic goals with your professional aspirations. In addition, they can guide how to prepare for interviews and even help you land internships.

Employers must ensure that employees are eligible to work in the US. Payroll taxes are withheld according to your income level. Your employer must withhold federal, state, and local income tax and social security and medicare taxes from your paycheck. Equal Opportunity Policy
Northeastern University’s Equal Opportunity Policy prohibits discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious belief, physical ability, family status, veteran status, marital status, citizenship, age, ancestry, creed, political affiliation, genetic information, medical condition, or source of income. This includes harassment, intimidation, bullying, stalking, and threats of violence.

The university’s affirmative action program provides equal opportunity to qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion or national origin. In addition, the university makes reasonable accommodations for disabled students.
Why is my application automatically rejected?
Workstudy programs offer low-income college students paid employment opportunities while attending school. However, some colleges use automated systems to reject applications without reviewing each applicant individually. Student advocates have criticized this practice because it denies qualified applicants access to the program.

The problem occurs when colleges use automated systems to screen applicants based on eligibility requirements. For example, many schools require students to submit proof of income. If a student does not provide documentation, he or she might be denied entry into the program.

In addition, there are often inconsistencies among different departments within a university. Some departments might allow students to enter the program even though others do not. In such cases, students who apply to multiple departments risk being disqualified from one department’s program, even though they meet the qualifications of another.
When can new students apply for jobs?
Students can now access Workday, the online job application system used by many companies across Canada. This includes students enrolled in postsecondary institutions, including colleges and universities.

Why am I unable to submit a timesheet?

Your COOP supervisor must approve requests to work part-time and make sure you communicate with him/her about your CO-OP schedule. Overtime charges apply if you work more than 40 hours per week. For more information, see our article "What happens if I don't complete my CO-OP?"
